26/8/17: Georgia Gould’s email to Labour councillors about cabinet elections

Dear All,

I wanted to firstly say a huge thank you to Phil and Theo for all of your long service for the borough.

You have both played a massive role in helping us deliver our ambitions on council housing, school investment, HS2 concessions and planning despite the difficult national context.

You have both been great friends and colleagues and I know you will continue to make a big impact in your new digital and planning roles.

The exec will be meeting shortly to come up with a timetable for selecting two new cabinet members.

I want to encourage an open competition. If anyone in group has ideas to contribute to cabinet then please put yourself forward.

It’s always hard to have elections among friends and colleagues but we are a better cabinet because we are democratically elected by our group members. I want us to be able to have an open election and then move forward together.

We are also looking for three volunteers to sit on a democratic working group with opposition councillors to look at how we open up council meetings. If you are interested please email me directly.

We have a brilliant team of councillors and I know whoever moves on to cabinet will help us continue our shared ambition to tackle inequality in Camden.
