Joe Rogan was born Joseph James Rogan on the 11th of August 1967 in Newark, New Jersy. He is a stand up comedian, an actor, television host and a martial arts specialist. He is of Italian and Irish descent. His parents divorced when he was five years old. At the age of seven years, they went to live in San Francisco, California. They moved again while he was eleven to Gainesville, Florida before finally settling in Massachusetts. Joe Rogan has been in touch with his father from the time he was seven. He went to Newton South High School in Massachusetts and graduated in 1985. He joined the University of Massachusetts but dropped out since he could not see the point of it. He developed interests in martial arts in his teenage years and learned kickboxing, karate and taekwondo. He is a taekwondo black belt and has won four Massachusetts state championships as well as the United States open championship in 1986. He retired from martial arts in 1988 citing health problems . A great fan of comedy from childhood,his friends at the taekwondo classes encouraged him to try his hand at stand up comedy since he always made them laugh. He did his first stand up comedy in, at an open mic night at a comedy club in Boston after six months of practice and preparation in August 1988. While doing comedy he also taught martial arts at the Boston University and did other casual jobs to gain financial stability. In 1990 he went to live in New York City. To get exposed to more opportunities, he again moved to Los Angeles, California in 1994. He became famous when he signed a deal (exclusive developmental) with Disney. He also did stand up comedy in various comedy clubs. His roles on the sitcoms-Hardball and News Radio made him really popular. In 1997,he became an interviewer for UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) -a mixed martial art promotion. In 2002, he was made the UFC’s color commentator. His first comedy special was released in 2000 and re-seven more specials have been released ever since. Since 2001,he has been the host of various television shows such as The Fear Factor TV show and The Man Show all which have greatly increased the numbers at his stand up comedy gigs. In 2009, Joe Rogan launched his popular podcast with Brian Redban. In 2010 the podcast was named Joe Rogan Experience and by October 2015, it was being downloaded 16 million times every month. In 2011, he got his major acting role, in the movie ‘Zookeeper ‘. Joe Rogan is married to Jessica and together they have two daughters and another daughter from Jessica’s previous marriage. They live in Bell Canyon.
