For a couple days each summer over the past 11 years, the farmers market takes over the Capitol lawn, inviting thousands of Michiganders to get a small taste of Michigan.
Recently, Governor Rick Snyder stopped by and visited with the more than 70 vendors who set-up shop to sell their Michigan-grown and produced products right here at the Capitol.
“What an awesome Pure Michigan event that celebrates our tremendous food and ag industry,” the Governor said. “Annually, the industry contributes more than $101 billion to Michigan’s economy, and farmers markets are a critical components of that success. I encourage all Michiganders to take a visit to a farmers market in their community.”

Statewide, there are more than 300 farmers markets selling a wide variety of products, including fresh, seasonal fruit and vegetables, flowers, jams, jellies, baked goods, honey, maple syrup, meat, salsas, dips, pickled products, soaps and more.
Farmers markets have been known to revitalize communities and provide important outlets for producers. In addition, markets connect consumers back to our farmers while also adding a sense of place and community to its shoppers.
The next farmers market at the Capitol will be held on Thursday, September 22 from 10 a.m. — 3 p.m.
