A Wild Patagonian Road: Details on How and Why to Cycle the Carretera Austral
Matt Evans

In January 2016 we bought a ladies bike (Trek 820) plus a rack and spares for 250CLP / 232GBP / 348USD from the “Trek” shop on Calle San Diego in Santiago. This Street has *at least* 20 bike shops. We then took the bike on a TurBus from Santiago to Puerto Montt (5000CLP, cash to the driver, per bike).

Puerto Montt has many options for outdoor kit (dedicated shops and department stores) and Trek bikes (although ladies options looked limited (although we weren’t looking hard)).
