Matt Walsh, I am Human
Sometimes, I run across your homophobic and transphobic tweets. It’s disheartening to see you be so openly hateful. The vitriolic commentary from your supporters is no less harsh (if not sometimes worse).
Your hateful words are spreading more hate and sheer ignorance like wildfire. People clamor in support of your anti-trans rhetoric while you misgender trans women and accuse them of being child molesting perverts who only want restroom rights so they can spy on cisgender females’ vaginas. (Hint: Their main priority is to pee. Fixing their makeup might also be on the list. But outside of consensual bedroom activities, they don’t care about people’s genitals.)
Matt, where in the Bible is it said that transgender people are an abomination?Where in the Bible is it say that my mere existence as a queer person infringes upon your religious freedom? How are you justifying your hatred?
I was raised fundamentalist Christian, Matt. I’ve read a shitload of the Bible. In the New Testament, Jesus is all about love. Is that the example you’re following? Is the blatant, hate-mongering queerphobia that you spread considered love in Jesus’ eyes?
I’m no longer a Christian, but I believe your Jesus said that we are all His children. There was no “*except for transgender, gay, lesbian, bisexual, and intersex people” disclaimer attached to those verses. So why do you treat us queer people as if we’re subhuman? You promote an ideology that strips us of our diginity again and again. (But when we try to regain our dignity and rights, you cry persecution.)
I am human, Matt. How is my existence persecuting you? I don’t demand that you follow my religious belief system (or lack thereof). I don’t stand on street corners and tell you that you’re doomed to a terrible afterlife if you don’t follow my rules.
I. Am. Human.
Us queers aren’t out to ban Christianity or stop your yearly Christmas celebrations. We just want nice, quiet lives somewhat like our cishet counterparts have. (Except sometimes we’re with a same-gender partner and we participate in Pride events.) Why do you continue to deny us our basic freedoms and happiness? Why is it that when we make a victory for LGBTQ+ people at either federal or state level, you’re there ready to mock us and rant about how “terrible” Obama is for treating us like humans.
Matt, we are human. I am human. Please, take the time to educate yourself on queer identities and issues. Try to learn about the struggles we face every day that are only made harder by your shameful rhetoric.
Otherwise, please just shut up and let us live our lives. You’re only making things worse for the LGBTQ+ community with your ignorance and vile hatred.
