My name is Rachel Kohberger, and I’m a Junior here at Grove City. Before I came to Grove City I wanted to be an archeologist. I even had an application sent in to University of Aberdeen in Scotland. Then I felt God calling me to ministry. I withdrew my application from University of Aberdeen and scrambled to make new college decisions and before I knew what happened I was enrolled at Grove City College as a biblical and religious Studies and history major. Halfway through Freshman year I realized that my history major was me holding onto my old dreams and not letting God have complete control, so I dropped that and with my extra credits I picked up a communication studies major. While I am interested in videography and event planning, the best part of the communication studies major is that it will give new skills and insights that can be applied to just about any job I may get, whether that be a communications intern for a church, administration for a non-profit, or even a missionary.

As I reflect on what the media is, and how it has effected me, I think about all the things that media has transformed. Eating disorders and mental illness, once shameful topics, have been brought to the forefront. There are now discussions, educating people on the topic. Political views have been transformed in a different, more negative, way. America is being polarized. Political parties are moving further left and right then ever before, and the media feeds into it. The media, however, is not some self-sustaining autonomous monster with a goal to destroy us all. Political discourse, mental health awareness, and memes are not things that created themselves. The media is what you and I make it. It is a tool that we all feed in to, whether for better or for worse.
