Does Medium Support use of Markdown Tags?

The Mashable article I read that first introduced me to Medium mentioned that most of the minimalist services they were discussing supported Markdown. I had not heard of that, but it sounds like a text formatting system that isn’t too dissimilar to HTML. I’m probably way off here, but what can you do, right?

So can I put markdown “tags” (is tag the right word?) into Medium posts? Let’s find out.

I found a Daring Fireball page that gives a list of Markdown syntax. Are they only under the covers, or can I force them into the text?

I’m really interested in images though.

That leaves us with the question… did this work at all?

I somehow doubt it.

Yeah, none of that worked. I can still only add an image by uploading it.

I did learn how to do bullet lists though. Apparently Markdown does work in some cases. I tried to put a header on this post script by putting an asterisk before and after the sentence. When I hit enter to go to the next line, I had a bullet, the words “post script” and a single asterisk, followed on the line below by a second bullet and the cursor. So yeah. That worked.

I guess I like the idea of Medium.com… but I don’t actually like the execution.

Oh well.
