Yes. And I’ve got countless racks of paintings that go unseen because they were essentially my stepping stones to better work. I think too often artists believe every piece must be a masterpiece. Accepting that as false, and accepting the so-so works as a necessary evil, has allowed me to move past the emotional failure we can feel when said works leave the easel. “Ok. That not-so-great one opened an opportunity for me to grow. What’s next?”
