Week 4: Rollercoaster Programming

So a lot happened this week and that stemmed from some unfortunate news coming from The Iron Yard HQ. The board of directors at The Iron Yard has decided to close down the school for future cohorts. They are going to continue with education and the career support but the Tampa/ St Pete campus will close its doors permanently on October 13th. This is sad news for the greater community because of the network and supporters that The Iron Yard has built in Saint Pete in the couple of years it has been in Tampa. I feel the most for the students who were planning on attending future cohorts because they are going to miss out on instruction from our awesome professors Gavin Stark, Mark Dewey and Jason Perry. Some of you have reached out to me through this blog and I highly encourage you to reach out to any of the professors above and ask them for ways to jumpstart your programming career.

While this program shutting down is going to hurt the Tampa technology community I am highly encouraged by the support that we have gotten from The Iron Yard alumni and the professors as well. These next 8 weeks are going to be an adventure and I know my classmates and I are excited to soak up as much knowledge as possible.

Furthermore, this week we were tasked with a project to build a music player applications using the Itunes api. Ti was a group project so I got the chance to build this project amongst others in the cohort so we were able to compliment each others strengths. I can’t wait to publish this project because it is something we are extremely proud of and have been able to add some cool features to it. I will have it pushed in my next blog so that you all can see it too.

In more exciting news as well I think I have decided to delve deeper into Javascript and try to learn about both Node.js and React.js over the next two months. I think this is the best path for me and it will allow me to explore the right path for me moving forward. I will have more either Wednesday or Thursday and thanks again for reading.
