Texting Isn’t the Only Driving Distraction

Distraction.gov, the U.S. government’s official website for distracted driving, reports over 3,150 people being killed in an auto accident involving a distracted driver in 2013 alone. The website also estimates that there are 660,000 people “manipulating an electronic device” at any given moment in places like Provo and throughout the United States. While we all know the dangers of driving while texting, there are many other distractions that can contribute to an auto accident, and a need for a lawyer.

Eating

Like texting and driving, eating at the wheel is something that almost everyone in provo and across America has been guilty of at least once. Whether someone is late to work, on a road trip or just too dang hungry to wait till they get home, eating in the car has become a common American practice, and a dangerous one. A lawyer would advise taking five to 10 minutes out of the day to eat if it meant avoiding an auto accident.

Passenegers

Another leader in the world of driving distractions is the person sitting next to you. Everyone has that one friend that they hate driving with because they are too loud or active in the passenger seat. All it takes for an accident to happen is a passenger to say “look over there.” It is important to let them know that someone is at the wheel and needs to concentrate on the road.

Outside Objects or Events

Ask any lawyer, it only takes one second to get into a terrible accident on the road. No matter how beautiful the view Provo, or how exciting another person’s crash on the side of the road looks, it is important to keep your eyes on the road at all times. A picture is worth a thousand words, but taking one from the drivers seat isn’t worth nearly as much as you, or someone else’s life.
