My Take: The 1989 World Tour (Live)

I just finished watching Taylor Swift’s The 1989 World Tour (Live) on Apple Music. I gotta say, I love these types of films. As a musician, I love seeing behind-the-scenes of huge productions like this. John Mayer’s Where the Light Is: Live in Los Angeles is still a favorite. A couple of thoughts about 1989.
- The show production was killer. Just amazing. Everything from the lighting design, video wall, LED bracelets, and moving/tilting/spinning catwalk…bravo.
- The film itself was really great too. The camera work was incredible…those slow-motion shots were money. These types of films can get boring if it’s just concert shots and doesn’t tell a good story — this does both.
The best moment of the show/film to me was We Are Never Getting Back Together. Her vocal just had so much energy and the arrangement had so much rock-n-roll. (Wildest Dreams was a close second) - Having special guests every night of the tour was a smart move and fun to watch.
- Taylor Swift…I just…I don’t know. I think she’s very talented and a great performer. That being said, I find her very annoying to watch on stage. Her mannerisms and movements and poses (and over-the-top hair flips) make me cringe. Not to mention the excessive midriff.
In all, I highly recommend it.
