Just prior to the opening of the 2018 season, the Minnesota Vikings made a number of roster moves, including cutting veteran Brian Robison and acquiring a new punter in Matt Wile. A longtime member of the team, Robison was drafted by the Vikings in 2007 and spent all of his 11 NFL seasons in Minnesota. During his time as a Viking, the 6-foot-3-inch, 259-pound lineman pulled down 204 tackles and 60 sacks in 173 games. Earlier in 2018, Robison agreed to a pay cut in order to return for his 12th season, but the fan favorite was cut from the team nonetheless.
In addition to cutting Robison, the Vikings made the decision to release punter Ryan Quigley in order to make room for Matt Wile, who the Vikings acquired via waivers. Wile, a former high school all-American from San Diego, played college ball in Michigan before beginning his professional career as an undrafted free agent with the Carolina Panthers. Despite later signing with the Dallas Cowboys, Atlanta Falcons, Arizona Cardinals, and, most recently, Pittsburgh Steelers, Wile has only appeared in four NFL games. He is the Viking’s third punter in as many seasons.
