The Secret Police vs. the Deep State vs. …

…The Electoral College?

Last evening’s and today’s revelations regarding Russia’s large hacking involvement in Donald Trump’s campaign success offer us yet another not-so-rare-these-days insight into the battle between the reactionary FBI and the neo-liberal CIA, respectively America’s secret police and its Deep State; and each’s implication in the 2016 Presidential campaign.
Weeks after the contested election of Donald Trump, the CIA has revealed Trump as a willing Russian stooge — not so unbelievable, now that US forces are now involved in the Russian-supported carnage taking place in Aleppo, and more are on the way … on the side of the Russians.
Why the CIA waited so long to report on Russia’s targeted hacking on Trump’s behalf, ironically its reports on Clinton’s alleged online malfeasance, is something of a mystery. Maybe it unlike the FBI’s James Comey was obeying the Hatch Act, which forbids Federal employees from intervening on behalf of national candidates for office in the heat of an election. Perhaps it was playing its post-election cards close to the vest.
Or maybe, as current news reports suggest, it was a function of FBI intransigence and obstruction resulting from the agency’s commitment to the election of an authoritarian ruler, an outcome the Deep State, which fears having to answer to a strongman President, would never condone.
Whatever the reason, we are witnessing the first surfacing of deep and deadly internecine conflicts within the Government, and especially its intelligence community, that predate the Minority President-elect — conflicts, however, that his contested election has exacerbated and that will trip up his plans for governing almost for sure. And it couldn’t come at a better time or a worst time, depending on your perspective regarding the Electoral College: already, some electors, even Republicans, led by a group calling themselves the Hamilton Electors, are promising to exercise their legal free will to vote “No” to Trump’s election, which may precipitate yet another constitutional crisis and national trauma. But isn’t that what Trump, the “change” candidate, “Drainer of the Swamp,” has always been running for? A social disruption so severe that he can bully his way into the post of President — never mind waiting for an inauguration — and also Caudillo, the American savior?
Who will win this contest, the Secret Police or the Deep State? Stay tuned, Americans, this melodrama that began years ago has yet to play out. Let’s hope we’re merely the audience and not the extras.
