Fitness & Wellness | The Start of a Freelancer’s Journey to Becoming Healthy

Back in 2014, I was in the best shape in my life. In about 8–9 months time I had lost around 80 lbs and was at my lowest weight since I was in middle school. I was running multiple times a week and by July 4, 2014 I ran my fastest mile yet(8:52).

Unfortunately a lot of things hit me like a ton of bricks a week after that run (I won’t go into detail about those but there were three major whammies) and I started slipping back into old habits.

Over the course of almost three years I gained back almost everything I lost and a little more. Honestly, I hate even seeing my reflection from time to time.

Its because of all of this and because I want to be around for a long long time that I decided that I needed to get back into my fitness and wellness mentality that I had all those years ago.

Probably one of the biggest differences between when I started then to where I’m at now is that I was working for a company where everyone was super supportive of my weight loss and really helped me feel empowered. Well, when you work for yourself, you don’t really have that support beyond your family. To remedy that I decided to do something different.

In the past 6 months I’ve been working hard to grow my social media, primarily my Instagram and Youtube channel, and so I figured why not use this and other social platforms to keep myself accountable? Thats pretty much what this blog post is for, to keep myself dialed in and honest about what I’m doing, the accomplishments, the hurdles and more.

Even as I write this now, instead of sitting at my desk, in my comfy chair, I’m standing up at my kitchen bar just writing away before I cook my breakfast.

So now that I’ve told you the background and why I’m writing this, let me fill you in on some of my plans and what I have going on in the future.

My biggest goal is to get down to my previous weight (from 2014) by April 2018. Lofty I know but I did it last time in less time so I figured I’d reach for the stars and repeat the magic. In order to accomplish that goal I would have to lose exactly 80lbs in a little less than 11 months.

I believe that I can do it and I’m going to work my hardest towards this goal.

Now here is the interesting part, next month my fiancé and me are going on a 3 week road trip, where we plan to circumnavigate the entire continental United States! Talk about a ton of temptations, especially during the driving portion of our road trip. Luckily, I have started working on a plan for this to keep the sugary demands at bay but its going to be interesting for sure.

Ok, I feel like I’m rambling a little bit so I think I’m going to close this out.

In closing, I’m accepting this major challenge of myself to get healthier and to lose weight and I plan on sharing everything with all of you along the way. I’m going to start using the hashtag “#FreelanceFit” and posting things across all of my social media platforms so that you all can keep me grounded and accountable. I plan on giving recaps of things that are happening in my Vlog episodes on Youtube and share the things that I’ve learned, done and feel as well.

But I also don’t want this to be just about me, I’d love to pass this along to others as well and know that I’m not just in it alone. If there is anyone out there that would like to join me in this journey of fitness and wellness, please do! I know that a lot of us could really use the support of others to get through this and accomplish our goals, whatever they are.
