My deepest condolences to you and your family on the loss of your father. Your post resonated with me so, it nearly brought me to tears. I’ve struggled with poverty my entire life, despite managing to graduate from a four-year university and working most of my adult life. I felt horrible and guilty, but then I realized a sobering fact: society demonizes those impoverished and venerates the wealthy for the sole reason of their wealth. I recently came across a condescending “inspirational” Instagram post that stated “You can’t have millionaire dreams with a minimum-wage work ethic.” As if minimum-wage workers aren’t among the hardest working people in the workforce — often holding down two or more jobs just to survive because they can’t earn a living wage. I didn’t mean to digress so, but your post states so much truth. Thank you, and I wish you nothing but the best.
