Take THAT Question Time. We cousins across the pond are showing the world that you Brits no longer dominate the world of political spectacle. Parliaments and Legislatures across Europe have long dominated “colorful” political discourse. They, often referring to our American Political Traditions as boring and uninspired.
For better or for worse, the 2016 Presidential campaign has changed all that and has brought, long delayed, the American Political Experience under the BIG TOP. Be it; penis size, concentration camps or death penalties for Gay & Lesbians, an American diaspora for Mexican and Muslim Americans, embracing the Klan, rampant sexism, or racial and ethnic rhetoric sounding more at home in Germany of the 1930’s, 2016 will go down in history as the year America topped them all.
For the political voyeur, there’s something to satiate the most twisted of observers. If you’re looking for coded, and not so coded messaging illustrating your desire for a Great White Male Hope, there’s something for you in both parties.
Even the Democratic Party, bastion of 20th and 21st century progressive politics, offers the sexist and closeted racist a return to “normalcy” with a candidate whose strategy has been to write off the pluralistic nature of traditional Democratic campaigns by appearing to be pinning his hopes on predominately white states with minimal cultural diversity.
And then there’s the Donald for Republicans. The great white hope for 2016, nothing more needs to be said as he has said it all with an unashamed verbosity not matched since the likes of Strom Thurmond and Jesse Helms. Only the adjectives have changed, from Blacks or Negros, to Muslims and Mexicans.
Whether you’re a front runner or second tier candidate, this years’ limelight shines uncomfortably upon the inconvenient truth surrounding a significant portion of the Republican electorate. You made your bed and now you have to lay with the bed bugs you created.
Beginning with embracing the Tea Party, followed by congresses refusal to work with a black President: (Come on, get real and search your soul, they are in culture shock. Do any of you ‘really’ think the last two years would look like they have if the Democratic President had been white?)
Republican politicians can’t run fast enough from the political climate they are SOLELY responsible for creating. I tell you true, it gave me whiplash to watch the “Hater Cruz” of all people, call out the Donald for his failings.
Whether you’re a Poor hater, Profit hater, Muslim hater, Black hater, Gay hater, Women hater, Mexican hater, or Man hater; Step right up folks, there’s something for everyone under the BIG TOP! Grab a couple 12 packs and pop some corn, it’s going to be the GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH! Please remain seated and do not remove your restraints until the ride comes to a complete stop.
