My fear is that the companies in charge of making these decisions won’t be very transparent about the decisions they come to. Mark Zuckerberg praises the reach of Facebook in one breath and vehemently denies its ability to influence the public in the next.
We create systems and become so tangled in their strands that we forget we designed them. We begin to think of systems, structures, and protocols as sentient long before they actually are, so I have little faith we will course correct once they do.
There are inherent biases in a lot, if not all, software programming but in the case of autonomous driving/piloting or surveillance & security systems it is very important that we know where those biases are and who is deciding what those biases should be.
Thanks for the good read!
