What a phenomenal read, Ashley! In the early paragraphs, I pondered whether it was fact or fiction (I was unfamiliar with the story). One positive side effect of these mass shootings is our nation’s newfound interest in mental health. While this shift is often seen as a smoke screen to avoid tackling our problematic love affair with firearms, it is a valuable topic to focus on. We’ve spent so many years studying the body and paying little attention to arbiter of it. Hopefully this attention leads to better tools to study the brain, smarter programs to help those in need, and a stronger sense of empathy for those with these debilitating mental disabilities.
