I am a white woman and so I try not to talk about racial issues I have never experienced. But my friends of different races have experienced them, and so I listen to them as openly as I can. If I can’t understand where they are coming from then I ask for more clarification, and I do that often under utilized skill of trying to see their perspective.

It has helped me greatly in that I don’t just make off the cuff judgement and I strive to understand others. I now too have more courage to call out bullshit when I see it, but it’s still a working progress.

Unfortunately, I have noticed a growing trend of Google university graduates on the internet. I’ve even argued with them a few times.

My motto still seems to ring true: Talk openly about what you know well. Shut up, listen and learn when you’re just pulling stuff out of your ass.
