I recently had the opportunity to explore Italy while attending meetings and the opening of our new office in Parma, Italy. Italy is a beautiful country full of gorgeous scenery, delicious food, and historic landmarks. The best way to see the country was to take a road trip. I packed a lot into the trip, such as climbing a mountain and visiting ruins as well as eating at a pizzeria that accepted Ducatus coin . Below are some of the places visited that made my trip memorable.

Sicily — It is the largest Mediterranean island off the “boot” of Italy. Sicily dates back to 8,000 B.C.E, so there is no shortage of historic sites. I was able to explore the many attractions, such as the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento and the Cappella Palatina. The Valley of the Temples is in a valley full of almond trees. There are several temples, including the Temple of Olympian Zeus and the Temple of Castor and Pollux (Dioscuri). The Cappella Palatina is famous for its architecture and gold mosaics. It is a chapel built for the Norman Palace in 1132 and is one of the UNESCO World Heritage sites. The geography of Sicily is one of wonder since it is full of hills and rugged terrain. In fact, the island is home to Mount Etna, the highest point on the island and the largest of the three volcanoes in Italy. …

In my years of travelling, I have been on holidays designed around a cruise, a location or a specific occasion. Nowadays, there seems to be an increase in vacations designed around themes, such as food, adventure, and wine. Wine destinations have become very popular in the past ten years due to the increase in cooking and travel shows. Not only are the vineyards in beautiful locales, the wine selections are unsurpassed. There are a number of wine tour companies in Europe and in the United States, such as Grape Escapes and Wildwood Adventures, that cater to this travel niche. Those who go on these trips can be divided into three groups: wine lovers, sommeliers, and winemakers. They combined their love of wine and travel to create customized trips. Many of the vineyards are family-owned and offer tastings, vineyard tours, and fine dining. …

Fintech continues to make our lives easier and more secure with new and more impressive advances each year. I have noted a few trends for 2019 that seem to be making headway. Among them are increased applications of blockchain in conventional industries, a rise in digital assistants, consolidation of start-ups and faster payment processing. Three quarters into the year, we have witnessed these trends come to fruition. Blockchain is now used in real estate (including our very own Ducatus Property) and law with smart contracts. Some start-ups went into consolidation (e.g drone start-ups) to avoid closing. Paying for items was made faster by “tap and pay” systems. Also, digital (or virtual assistants) have increased in number and have become a fixture in homes (e.g. Alexa) and on smartphones. The new fintech trends have a great deal to live up to. …

Autumn is a wonderful time to go on vacation for a number of reasons, such as attending festivals, observing the fall foliage, and enjoying cooler temperatures. One of the best places to visit in the fall is Germany. Aside from Oktoberfest, Germany has a lot to offer. For those who love hiking, it’s the perfect time to take in the peak colors of fall foliage. There are also castles, cities and national parks to explore. Below are a few things to see and do during this time of year.

Fintech has made our lives easier and more secure with a number of automated services, including mobile banking. In the past five years, we have seen traditional financial institutions adopt mobile banking to attract and maintain its customers. This is largely due to millennials who have grown up using mobile devices. They are accustomed to using apps to manage almost every part of their lives, from diet to money management. Thus, the use of mobile banking is now part of people’s everyday financial transactions. There is fierce competition among banks to offer the most mobile banking services. …

I have always been fascinated by the mining aspect of cryptocurrency. Mining and miners are a vital part of the digital ecosystem. Some believe that mining is easy, but it is not. Mining is a very complicated process that takes a great deal of time, effort, and computing power. Let’s take a brief look at mining and what it entails.

The first miners came on the scene in 2009, when Bitcoin was released. It was a way to earn Bitcoin without paying for it and it also prevents double-spending. Miners keep the blockchain network secure, encrypted, and decentralized. When a transaction is made, miners see it and try to grab it from the network. Even if a miner grabs a transaction, he or she is not guaranteed a reward. The miner who solves the puzzle first and completes 1 MB of verifications receives a reward. This process is called proof-of-work. For Bitcoin, a miner can earn 12.5 BTC for mining a block. It is important to note that this amount has decreased significantly since 2009, when mining a block earned 50 BTC. The number is also projected to decrease to 6.25

Like Bali, Singapore is a beautiful country I am proud to call my home. I am fortunate to have been able to explore its many attractions and beautiful cityscape. If you are planning for a visit, here are the top interesting things you wouldn’t want to miss.

Merlion Statue — Located in Merlion Park, this mythical statue has the head of a lion and the body of a fish, both of which are representative of Singapore’s history. The lion is symbolic of Singapore’s name, whereas the fish symbolizes Singapore’s beginnings as a fishing village. It was sculpted by Lim Nang Seng in 1972 and initially located at the mouth of the Singapore River. In 2002, it was relocated to Merlion Park after the Esplanade Bridge was completed. The statue shares its home with a smaller Merlion statue named “Merlion Cub.” …

If you travel as much as I do, having the best travel gear not only helps to simplify packing but also improves organization. Each year, there is something new and exciting in travel gear. Whether it’s a compact umbrella or a multi-use toiletry bag, these items make traveling fun and less stressful. There is nothing more frustrating than experiencing a broken wheel on a suitcase or having to throw out shampoo at the airport because it was in an unapproved container. …

We have encountered a lot of news about cyber attacks that have caused costly disruptions and a lot of inconvenience until the issues were resolved. Hackers have created plenty of problems and raised concern not only for individuals, but also for corporations. Cyber attacks and threats have always been around since the first computers were released. We have since accepted that these threats are constant and rely on our government to protect the Internet and computer networks from hackers. Now, there is a new threat and it is one that affects cryptocurrency. …
