The Evolution of Data: How It Looks A Lot Like SaaS
Impermanence is a a reoccurring concept in modern Buddhism and it translates over to the state of flux that is occurring in big data markets currently.
The way many companies run their big data set up up to this date is largely using in house data centres to store are process the results. This is mainly due to complexities of setting up off site and privacy of the data being used.
This limits the best applications to the companies who can afford to invest in this. Which means that anyone outside the fortune 2000 can struggle with getting the outcomes it needs within a suitable cost structure.
Does anyone see a repeat of history?
History repeats itself. Historians repeat each other — Philip Guedalla
This was the exact same format where, applications that companies needed for operations were largely run in house…. that is until the most innovative company for five years running SalesForce came and blew the whole market out of the water with the SaaS system.
The same thing is starting to happen with BDaaS (BDaaS). Once a few technicalities have been overcome. This will democratise the access to high power tools that, will not only be useful for fortune 2000 companies to make decision of. But it will applicable to the family businesses that need data to act on sooner rather than later.
Prat Moghe is on the side that predicts it will go even further. With smart applications of integrating, machine learning and big data, the machine learning alygorthems will start to reveal the ‘unknown, unknowns’ that need to be acted upon.
It is an exciting time to be looking into the data sphere, and a time to study the past, of how it might all play out.
