With the rise of AI writer tools becoming a staple and sometimes a norm, can the average reader differentiate if a robot or a human wrote the article? AI is advancing rapidly and will absolutely disrupt established industries that once thought their titles secure. Let’s try an experiment. I will write three paragraphs about three separate topics and will use AI to generate a similar paragraph and post the answers at the end. If you can’t tell, AI might have just passed the Turing Test.

#1 — The Future of the Internet

Sample A) The future of the internet is expected to bring significant changes in terms of technology, accessibility, and the way people use it. The development of 5G technology will bring faster internet speeds and more reliable connections, which will enable new possibilities for online communication, entertainment, and business. The increase in the use of Internet of Things (IoT) devices will also continue to expand the internet’s reach, connecting more objects and appliances to the web. Additionally, the continued growth of artificial intelligence and machine learning will enable the internet to become more personalized and responsive to users’ needs. The future of the internet also brings the concern of security, privacy and data governance. Efforts to keep user data safe and secure will become more important as the internet becomes more ingrained in people’s daily lives.

Sample B) The future of the internet gives one both a terrifying and optimistic feeling. With the rise of AI, blockchain, and quantum computing the future generation will not remember where the internet was during the early days where Google and Apple were but start ups. The internet was once a tool to access information but now is being used for communication, entertainment, and sometimes nefarious purposes. The future state will attempt to incorporate increased security and speed but with increased tech debt and complex processes, companies will be slow to respond. Will the internet be used primarily for memes and cat videos going forward? Probably. But there’s a whole other world that will take place online in the years to come.

#2 — The Impact of Social Media on Mental Health

Sample A) Today, social media is present in many facets of daily life. It acts as a forum for discourse, information exchange, and creative expression. Since the advent of Myspace, social media use has escalated, as have concerns about its impact on mental health. Social media was originally developed as a method to stay in touch with loved ones and enjoy the novelty of posting an expressive song on your page. Social media networks understood that it was a dopamine farm that could generate revenue from selling advertising in between swipes. As we strive to live up to the illusory lifestyles that others depict, we have become the product and are left feeling empty. No wonder we all need therapists these days.

Sample B) The impact of social media on mental health is a complex issue. While it can provide a sense of connection and community, excessive use of social media has been linked to a variety of mental health issues, such as anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. This is due to the constant comparison with others, the pressure to present a perfect image of oneself online, and the constant notifications and messages that can create feelings of isolation and loneliness. It’s important to use social media in a mindful and balanced way, and to be aware of the ways in which it can affect mental well-being.

#3 — The Current State of American Renewable Energy

Sample A) The current state of American renewable energy is a rapidly growing and evolving field. The United States has made significant progress in the development and deployment of renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and hydroelectric power in recent years. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, renewable energy sources accounted for 11% of the total electricity generated in the US in 2020. Solar energy has seen the most rapid growth, with the installed capacity more than quadrupling over the last five years. Wind energy is also becoming more prominent, with the installed capacity doubling over the same period. On the other hand, the growth of hydroelectric power has been relatively stable. The Government has set ambitious goals for the future, aiming to increase the share of renewable energy sources in the country’s energy mix in the next decade. However, there are still challenges to be addressed, such as the need for more transmission infrastructure to connect remote renewable energy sources to the grid, and the need to improve storage solutions to balance the intermittency of some renewable energy sources.

Sample B) The current state of American renewables is a mixed bag. Some in the US believe that renewables is the future. Wind turbines in the Mid-West and off the coast, Nuclear facilities, Solar Panels in the West, and Hydroelectric facilities are all being built with the purpose of driving the renewable revolution. However, there’s a prominent group that believes that non-renewables should be here to stay. Gasoline is still King with most Auto companies though many are already making the switch to all electric or EV. The US Government, much like a large boat, is difficult to steer one direction or the other so a large shift such as this is coming but will take time. Questions regarding the infrastructure needed for a country wide switch to EV is coming but will take years if not decades to build and implement. Once these are in place, I would wager the switch would occur almost overnight.

So could you tell which was which? AI currently writes in somewhat generic terms and can easily be ran through an AI detector such as Contentatscale.ai but when one reads an article on a blog, reddit, etc. you probably won’t take the time to run that through a detector because, frankly, who cares? It’s just words on the page. But as AI takes the place of talented writers who took years to hone their skills, writing loses it’s luster. AI will dominate media for the years to come so be cautious and leverage critical thinking on whether or not a human wrote something or if an emotionless AI did.
