Or as it should be called a Word-Trailer

People seem to overcomplicate loglines and to simplify it I will say this

‘There is not A way to do it, what works for you, works’

A logline is simply a Word-Trailer, a trailer's job is to get someone to watch the film, and the job of a Word-Trailer is to get them to read the script. Read more with an example and a Word-Trailer template at www.RoughDrafts.co.uk

Rough Drafts Top Tips for Loglines

  1. Just because it is written on the internet doesn’t make it right.
  2. Don’t get it Write, get it Ritten.
  3. Yes, a logline needs to be short, but your first drafts don’t have to be, get all the information down and then edit.
  4. It’s not just words, it's language. In the Jaw's logline it is not a ‘big’ shark it's a ‘Gigantic’ shark, he paints a different picture. Don’t have your serial killer ‘Waste time’, have them ‘Kill time’.
  5. Let the reader fill in the blanks, suggestion is sometimes as good as telling.
  6. I keep reading ‘Don’t give away too much’, I would say give them everything that gets them reading your script.
  7. The logline / Word-Trailer has one job, get the reader interested.
  8. MAIN TIP — There is not one way to do this, and what ever works for you is the best way.
  9. Use the template we provide for free (Click here to go direct to it)
