Some of the World’s Most Fantastic City Parks

Take a look at some of the world’s most fantastic city parks.

There’s something quite magical about an open green space in the middle of a city, isn’t there? The stark contrast between this slice of nature and the surrounding concrete jungle is truly fascinating, and the idea of a tranquil place existing to provide an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city is a fantastic one. Take a look at some of the world’s most fantastic parks and fuel that wanderlust a little bit more.

Stanley Park (Vancouver, Canada)

This park is situated right next to downtown Vancouver and consists of a 1000 acres of greenery. Unlike many other city parks, Stanley Park was not designed by a landscape architect, but is in fact an evolution of a woodland and urban space over time. There are many attractions to see in this park, especially the Vancouver Seawall along which many people can be found walking and biking, all while enjoying the Pacific Ocean views. Other sites include various monuments, gorgeous gardens, the Vancouver Aquarium, a golf course, stunning beaches as well as a small train. There are also numerous hiking trails in the forested interior. It’s an outdoor person’s dream.

Central Park (New York, USA)

Possibly the most famous urban park in the world, Central Park is located in the heart of Manhattan in NYC. At least 35 million people visit each year and the over 700 acres of land is home to a variety of birds, walkways, bridges and lakes. Even during the icy winter months, people can be found enjoying a stroll, but it’s during the balmy summer months that the park really comes alive. Skaters and bikers weave their way along the paths whilst couples indulge in a romantic boat excursion in one of the famous paddleboats, and friends picnic merrily on the lawns. Central Park also offers visitors a cultural fix with its art installations, summer concerts and two-acre dedication to music legend John Lennon.

Arderne Gardens (Cape Town, South Africa)

Perhaps a lesser known green space, the Arderne Gardens in Claremont, Cape Town is a serene spot located in the busy suburb. It boasts the finest collection of exotic trees in South Africa as well as one of the country’s largest trees — the Moreton Bay Fig. The gardens are popular amongst families, especially those with young children who are able to run around exploring the flowers and various animals that call this space home. The Japanese-style ponds add to the tranquillity of the gardens and the paths with interspersed benches invite you to stop and take a minute to relax and enjoy the beauty of your surrounds. It’s no wonder that newlyweds are often spotted having their wedding shots taken in this gorgeous space. Claremont residents are lucky to have such a beautiful natural haven on their doorstep.

Luxembourg Gardens (Paris, France)

Paris is an enchanting city all on its own, but the spectacular Luxembourg Gardens just add to its charm. Spending an afternoon in this gorgeous place easily makes one forget all of life’s woes and provides a welcome escape from the fast pace of the city. The perfectly manicured lawns, luminous flower beds and calming fountains create a cocoon of nature in which people from all over the world allow themselves to get lost. Live music often plays from a gazebo which can be enjoyed while enjoying a light lunch at one of the many small cafés dotted around the gardens. Whilst hiking may not be the order of the day, relaxation most certainly is.
