If you’re in the market for a POS restaurant management system, then there’s a good chance overeager salespeople hounded you (and your wallet) by recommending only “the best” setup for your restaurant, without taking into account your actual needs.

In turn, there’s a good chance these folks never offered a more affordable, yet fully featured iPad solution, even though they’re often the perfect answer to your POS needs.

A month ago, Hannah Harrington gave us a great overview of why everyone should consider an iPad-based POS system. (Spoiler Alert: It’s because they’re awesome.)

But for those who know they need a restaurant POS setup, but want a little more breakdown as to why an iPad might be the right path to follow, read on.

We decided to dive a little deeper.

1. Cost

Yep, let’s start with the one concern ANY owner wants to consider when shopping for POS systems. An iPad POS is usually more cost-effective than a conventional point-of-sale — not only over the price of proprietary hardware but also with service and support costs, as well. We’ll never recommend choosing a POS system based on cost alone because you DO often get what you pay for.

But when you can have a complete, thorough restaurant POS system — one that meets and exceeds the needs of most restaurant owners — at a fraction of the cost of conventional setups, then you need to strongly consider this option.

2. Security and stability

iPads are known for their look, renowned for their usability, and offer tremendous long-term stability over other operating systems. If there are failures within your restaurant POS software, solving the issue can be as easy as reinstalling the app.

Plus, iOS software is rarely targeted by hackers when compared to other POS systems and is much more difficult to permeate by those who try. In short, you’re much safer

And, in the unlikely event of a hardware failure, new iPads can be purchased immediately, with no need for technicians or lengthy, expensive repairs.

3. Flexibility and mobility

iPad-based software contains arguably the industry’s most stable and reliable wireless platform. This means your staff is capable of bringing the POS to the people, speeding up ordering and payment, and allowing management to get real-time reports of back-end data, without missing a step.

We don’t recommend lugging around a conventional POS terminal. Your customers might notice.

4. It just works!

Ever seen a 3-year-old using an iPad? These kids likely can’t master the working of a bathroom faucet but have no problem showing you how to master Minecraft. If they can handle those skills, imagine how nice they’d be for your already-stressed waitstaff?

iPads are inherently easy to use, regardless of technical skill or business acumen. OurBreadcrumb POS can be installed in no time, and training doesn’t take long, either.Within minutes, your staff will have a powerful, yet a user-focused system in their hands, freeing their time for more important things, like your customers’ happiness.
