Very much in agreement with you about UBI being a “political challenge” as you said. Whether it will be pursued by those in the Anglo-American sphere, I don’t know; but, I will say that a think an NIT is better tax-wise than UBI as it is thought of currently (which is basically combining all welfare spending and dividing by the populace).

I’ll be keeping a close eye on what happens in both Finland — the first country I came across trialling a basic income-style payment — and Utrecht (I think that’s the city) in the Netherlands, where they are trying some form of basic income payment. The rolling payments example you mentioned in your piece I shall have to investigate further!
