Fighting Fears. Cooking Cholle.

Talk about fighting fears. Talk about resisting doing things you think you’ll fail at.
So, in my attempt to fight such fears this summer, I tried making kadhi and cholle this weekend (for those who don’t know what kadhi is = spiced soup made of thin yogurt and chickpea flour, and cholle = Indian style cooked spicy chick peas) AND it turned out well. Those who know what these two dishes are, would know it’s not easy to make.
I had to fight my mental fear of not making it close to how well my grandmother, mother and maami make it (it’s still not close to how they make it, but it’s a happy start — whee :)). The eternal flavour of kadhi-chawal (rice with the spiced soup) is what defines the north-Indian Punjabi palate for me and this makes me SO happy! As for cholle, I think they are my childhood crush which I’ll never get over.
Armed with a companion who’s happy to repeat-eat kadhi and cholle for days, here’s to more courage fighting fears and having the support that appreciates.
p.s. — The picture is of my cholla, and while a few more pixels could have made it more appealing, it still won’t be a patch on how good they tasted.
p.p.s- I am missing some modesty in this post.
