Ann Landers once said, “Love is friendship that has caught fire. It is quiet understanding, mutual confidence, sharing and forgiving. It is loyalty through good and bad times. It settles for less than perfection and makes allowances for human weaknesses.” It is said that love is best quality about life, and the most powerful thing on this planet. Love gives someone purpose, hope, confidence etc. In the Hunger Games Katniss and Peeta, both residents of District 12 fall in love with each other in the midst of all the war, chaos, and violence. Their love started when the rules of the Hunger Games changed. This was inspired by Katniss’s mentor (Haymitch), who got Katniss to survive because of the idea of young love. The rule stated that there can be two victors crowned if they were a pair of people from the same district, and the last pair alive. As the Hunger games continue, Peeta suffers a leg injury and Katniss takes care of him, feeds him soup, and even gives Peeta a kiss on the cheek. After a day or two Peeta tells Katniss his true feelings for her, he says “I remember the first time I saw you, you’re hair was in two braids instead of one, I remember when you sang in the music assembly, after that I watched you going home everyday.” Katniss is touched by what Peeta says and lays next to him and cuddles with him. After about an hour there is an announcement made that supplies are being dropped off and Katniss wants to get medicine for Peeta. He wont let her go but she wants to do it because she said “he would do it for her”. When Peeta falls asleep Katniss sneaks out and ends up retrieving the medicine for him. The next morning after someone from another district dies, the rules changed again. This time the announcement stated that there could no longer be two victors, only one. Neither Peeta nor Katniss wanted to be the one to survive; the other person could not live with it. So they decided that instead of live without the other one, they would because both kill themselves (we have seen other examples of love like this such as in Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet). Then as each of them is ready to take their own life, there is a sudden announcement that they are both crowned winners. The people loved this because they are fascinated with the love of Peeta & Katniss. The love that grew between Peeta and Katniss saved both of their lives. Love was their ticket to winning and them getting their freedom. This is why love is the most important thing in life, because this movie proves that love can literally set you free.
