Iphone 4s Users Should Not Download iOS8
For years now the Apple IPhone has been one of the most popular phones on the market. The IPhone series really started getting popular when the iPhone 4 released in 2010. Then in 2011 the iPhone 4s came out and revolutionized iPhones with Siri. It is now three years later and it is still a popular phone to have. We are now on the iPhone 6 and 6 plus generation and there have been a lot of changes especially to the operating system. The iPhone 4s will not be able to download the new iOS 8 update, because it can’t handle the operating system of iOS 8. Simply it is just too advanced. You should not update your iPhone 4s with iOS8.
The iOS 8 system is built and useful for smartphones with big screens. The iPhone 4s phone screen is 3.5 inches while the iPhone 6 plus has a screen size of 5.5 inches. That means that the iPhone 4s would have to try to shrink the image 2 inches smaller than what it was originally planned for. For example, the new quicktype keyboard is a problem. More than half screen is taken up by the keyboard, which means for someone to attempt to email, text, or tweet will be having quite a bit of difficulties. Also the widgets in the Notification center cannot display as much information as the iPhone 6 plus could. The newly improved app switching screen, which now includes your recent and favorite contacts, is more constricted. Having the screen issues will clearly be a hassle on iPhone 4s issues, and might make it so you don’t want to even text or email anyone your phone.
Articles confirm that iOS 8 creates problems with speed and rendering. iOS 8 has update required for apps that the iPhone 4s will not be able to obtain. For example AirDrop, Touch ID, Handoff apps, support for OpenGL ES 3.0 are several features that will not be able to be on the iPhone 4s. Also the iPhone 4 “lacks LTE, and uses an Apple A5 chip that only offers about a quarter the raw performance of the Apple A7 in the iPhone 5S (the A8 in the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus widens this gap yet further).” These apps are very handy. Of course the iPhone 4s can’t use the Touch ID app because there is no fingerprint scan on it. The Airdrop app is way of transferring files wirelessly from one device to another one. An article states that “the ease of transferring files to your mac via AirDrop means you can easily copy over those pictures, and being able to share photos between devices means you wont need to use storage space on a shared photo stream.” But you can also share Facebook, Twitter, iMessage, and other apps through AirDrop.
There was a test done that showing that iOS 7 ran faster on the iPhone 4s than iOS8. There were noticeable differences in the speed time. For example with the safari app, the app opens up in 1.25 seconds on iOS 7 but on iOS 8 the app opened up in 2.16 seconds. Other apps such as camera, settings, mail, messages, calendar, cold boot all experienced delays when on the iOS 8 operating system compared to iOS7. I know these times may not sound THAT big of a difference on paper, but in real life it seems like it takes forever to open.
One of my friends has problems with his iPhone 4s all of the time. He tells me that apps like Instagram, Twitter, Safari, Messages, and Snapchat take forever to open. Apparently iOS8 makes snapchat “freak out”. It will open up and then all of sudden just close on you, and will do that for about 10 minutes.
With all of these problems no one should feel the need to download iOS 8 with the iPhone 4s. There are too many problems with the speed, display, and rendering to try and covert over. You simply should try and upgrade your phone or stick to iOS 7. The only main difference between the two operating systems are that iOS 8 simply adds features to the already existing features. The new iPhones are not that experience when I had my iPhone 5c I had got it for $50 at a local RadioShack. These phones are very affordable to get the new upgrade. One get the new phone then you don’t have to worry about have operation system update issues like you did with your old iPhone. It will be worth it and save you the hassle, because sooner or later the iPhone 4s will get left in the dust with the way new iPhones are popping up left and right. I’m pretty sure that the iPhone 7 will be coming out soon and is around the corner.
