The Beauty of a Snow Day

January 26, 2016–8 miles
My morning was early. A 5am wake up as I got some sleep. I felt good and awake and ready to start my day. I snuck out as quietly as I could as I wanted my alone time. I was hoping baby would get another hour sleep. Well I can hope. Did my morning rituals and got my coffee ready. I knew that hub wanted to get baby out in the snow to get some more pics but at the same time I needed to train. So what was best and that was for me to get out first and I eventual meet up with them. It worked out perfectly. I was still a bit lazy this morning but once I got ready everything else seemed to follow. I soon awoke hub about 7am. Gave him my plans and I was out doing what I love. First mile now is always slow trying to get to the park. Especially as the kids are getting to school and everyone is headed every direction at that time. I just have to be patient. Once in park there are still a few spots to be careful with but once I got on my path I was off. I was hoping to stay on the trails. But there is none at this point as they are covered with snow. I may just hit a few towards the end. But so be it. It will all be an adventure. This is my morning well of now. By mile 3 I started hitting a mid 8 pace. I was not pushing it much as my groins are a bit sore and I am playing it safe. But I maintained the same pace for a few miles. Then who I do I come across again my buddy Dave. My pace had to slow down drastically at this point as I did not want to be rude and love having conversation with him as we run. He is an encyclopedia of running. I love hearing all his ultra experiences and he loves hearing mine. He’s my 70 something man in the park? I explained to him I would be running to about 7 miles as I was meeting up with my family and he could meet my other half. He said, “Wonderful.” We proceeded. Soon enough I hit my 7 miles. I felt like it went so fast. I was there above the hill at about 8:45am as I said to hub where I would meet them. I’m always on time. I gave him a call and I waved them down as they were approaching. I then introduced Dave to both of them and we all spoke for a few minutes. Then he was off to continue his run and now it was baby and mommy and daddy snow time. What fun! All the distractions today were good for me. It is nice once in a while to get off your routine and still have fun but still get you miles in. So I did! My husband was in great spirits and had his brand new Sony camera and there he goes taking pictures. Shot after shot there where all but fun. Then he handed it off to me and I took an amazing few. I’m not so bad with the camera I thought. How beautiful! There was no one out much but just a few dog walkers. It was so nice and relaxed. But at this point I was starting to freeze. I began doing snow angels on the ground and playing with baby. Rolling in the snow like a kid. So after sweating for a few miles then getting cold again it was no fun. I still wanted to enjoy every minute of it as we were all in great spirits. Seeing baby Becks touching the snow is adorable. I started making big snow balls so he could think they were soccer balls and he would kick them. Then as I grasp to make a smaller ball I created a heart.

Well I was not meaning to but hub captured it. I was like, “Oh, how darling.” We continued to play for a little longer and capture a few more shots. Then I knew it was time for baby to head back home as I did not want him to get sick. It honestly was almost 40 degrees but when your on the ice and snow it feels much colder. I told him get baby home ASAP and that I would continue on my run for another mile or so and I will get home in a few minutes. I must pick up babies milk I thought. Priorities of being a mom! He then captures the most amazing shot of me heading off up the hill. I am all smiles. The park is absolutely beautiful but at the same time very dangerous for a runner. So be careful out there. In closing these are the type of days that are rare and special. When you don’t makes plans it always seems to come out special. My closing moment was when I crossed the street and literally had to walk through an ocean. The water went up past my ankles. I thought yuck but who cares. I had a great morning with my crew. Happy Tuesday. Feeling strong and capable=POWERFUL!
