A stream
Where things begin
Pen and paper? Tumblr? My running blog? Where do I put my thoughts? Do I want others to read my ramblings? Do I even have time to ramble?
I’ve heard more than once recently that it takes two consistent weeks to start a habit. I know this. I’ve done this with many things. I would have never labeled myself a runner had it not been for those first 2 weeks.
I am a writer and editor at heart. Unfortunately, due to a variety of circumstances, I don’t write as much as I used to. By editing myself I see stupid mistakes. Sometimes I write “your” when I mean “you’re.” I can’t settle for this.
As an editor, I’ve already read these first few paragraphs several times wondering how to transition back to paragraph two. I’m also wondering how this will end talking about water.
I came across this site after reading this post today … which gave me one of those friendly reminders of how long it takes to start a habit. I want to write beyond my paying jobs. I have things in my head that should find their way out; I have notes from an idea book that are, well, just notes in an idea book that need to find a way out; I just have to write.
I gave this the title of “A stream” for a reason. Some streams flow into ponds and go nowhere; other streams flow into a river that flows into another river that eventually makes its way to an ocean. When you find the beginning of a stream, you probably don’t know where it ends. And that is exactly where I want this to go.
It starts with one post. Two or three posts won’t turn into a habit. Ten posts will get me closer. Thirty, in a reasonable time frame, will be all I need to get to that river.
