Thanks for this carefully reported article. I’m glad that it explains how complex it is to disentangle the many potential factors. One further complication is the possible “emigration” of northern fur seals from St. Paul and St. George. NOAA research has shown that the fur seal population on Bogoslof island (south of the Pribilofs, but north of the Aleutian chain) has grown substantially over the past 20 years. However these gains only explain a small portion of the population fall in the Pribilof population. []
