Here’s Howe — Reverse Grip Triceps Pushdown

The reverse-grip triceps pushdown is a great, but completely under-used exercise for building your triceps.

Why?

Well, because most of us opt to use the standard variation of this move, which uses an overhand-grip on a V-bar or a rope attachment.

However, while standard pushdowns are awesome for attacking the long head of the triceps muscle (great for adding size), this slightly different variation of the move will allow you to hit a completely different part of the muscle.

The medial head.

This is the one part of the triceps which is pretty darn hard to build, which is mainly because the only way to engage it is to take an underhand-grip while working triceps.

If we take a moment to think about our the triceps exercises we usually incorporate into our arm routine, it becomes very easy to see why the medial head is the one which remains undeveloped in most guys and girls — none of them are underhand!

Here’s a video breakdown, from my YouTube series Here’s Howe (still laughing at this pun) which runs you through how to perform reverse-grip triceps pushdowns — often also referred to as the reverse grip triceps pulldown due to the nature of the exercise — and how to skip past common mistakes.
