Update: Siri now sends rape queries to RAINN
Sara Wachter-Boettcher

Hmmm. As someone who works in the software space, I struggle with this one.

It sounds nice to say that Apple should focus more on real problems, but real problems don’t sell devices. Last week, news went around that people can query Siri with, “Where is Sadness in Cleveland?” and it will return the location of the Browns stadium. That information went viral. This week, they add the functionality you describe above, and hardly anyone pays attention. So, is this an Apple issue? Or a societal issue? Because Apple is going to continue to do whatever impacts the bottom line.

In additional fairness to Apple, some credit is due for the spectacular amount of real world problems that they HAVE played a role in solving.
