It’s time for a change of manager at Bolton Wanderers

This is the point where Bolton Wanderers should be deciding whether to stick or twist.

Keep Neil Lennon in charge, or part company with him and bring in somebody else.

Unfortunately, that process isn’t straight forward at Wanderers.

Lennon told The Bolton News that he wouldn’t resign from the post, so the ball is in the club’s court.

With time still left on Lennon’s contract, though, it’s likely that his sacking would come at a cost, which is something that Bolton can’t afford at present.

But a change is something that is needed imminently.

I, like many supporters, have stuck by Lennon because of off-the-field issues out of his control that he has faced, such as players not being paid and a lack of funds in transfer windows.

However, patience is now wearing thin, as performances and results haven’t been good enough and there are no signs of him turning the current situation around.

In the most important fixture of the season to date at Rotherham United yesterday, Bolton were hammered 4–0 after a woeful second-half display.

A win would have put the Whites back in the mix, but defeat has left them seven points adrift of saftey, a fairly insurmountable number at this stage of the season.

The current issues that the club is facing will inevitably have an affect on-the-field to some extent, but it can’t be used as an excuse.

Take Northampton Town as an example; the club was given a winding-up petition earlier on this season, but the players continued to perform.

They have now been taken over, sit third in League 2 and, if they win their game in hand, can move to the top of the table.

Bolton’s squad does lack quality, but it is better than a number of others in the Championship.

Often in difficult circumstances, playing for one another and your management can help you to defy the odds and pull through. Unity is vital in sport.

That doesn’t seem to be the case at Bolton, though, and that is why a change is needed.
