PHOENIX (August 21, 2017) — On the eve of his Tuesday rally and the heels of Charlottesville, Arizona voters are split on their view of President Donald J. Trump. In a statewide survey conducted August 17–18, 50% of Arizonans have a favorable opinion of the President, with 47% viewing him unfavorably.
In a collaborative survey conducted by Intrepid Public Affairs and Data Orbital, Arizonans were asked about the trustworthiness of national and local media outlets as it relates to the consumption of political news. A sample of 700 voters found that Fox News is the most preferred source of news, followed by local news in a distant second, CNN, other sources, and finally MSNBC.
Surprisingly, only 14% of respondents found social media sites, like Facebook and Twitter, to be reliable sources of news, with an overwhelming majority citing social media outlets as untrustworthy.
“The trend of the 2016 campaign cycles continues as it relates to the opinion of President Donald Trump. Regardless of what happens in the White House or the activities surrounding the President, the cake is baked when it comes to the opinions of the electorate,” according to Ryan O’Daniel. “Changing hearts and minds is becoming increasingly difficult given the depth of the partisan divide, especially when it comes to the President. Emotion is going to be the key to driving political messages, regardless of the delivery medium”.
“As we inch closer to the 2018 general election, it is clear that as candidates prepare to campaign across our state, the majority of voters still look to television as their primary news source. While having a strong presence on social media is key, voters across the ideological, education and age spectrum agree that news found on social media is untrustworthy,” stated George Khalaf.
