VR startup goes transparent
We’ll share our stories, stats, and concerns with all of you. To show what are the daily struggles of VR startup founders.
TLDR: We build app to talk about VR in VR. Previous app-BasementVR took us 6 months to realize it was a bad idea. And now we’ll share what we’ve learned and how we’ll use it.

Why we’re doing it?
Main reason to use mobile is Facebook, Snapchat, Pinterest and Twitter, and we don’t believe that AltspaceVR, VRChat, HighFidelity, or Sansar will become one of those reasons in VR. That’s why we’re doing this.
How is it different ?
- Fake life in VR isn’t what we need. At Postity we take existing communities to VR. No one would use facebook if it wouldn’t be about you.
- People don’t want to invest first, so we’ll make sure you will have content to read and comment, and then maybe you’ll create your own.
- Lack of notifications — noon of social VR apps lets you know once something really important happened. Postity sends you in-VR notifications.
And what’s also important we’re like California Rolls new — but known. We use concept of posts, newsfeed, but we’re mixing it with VR-native goodness.

Why you should care about ?
Why should I use VR everyday ? Currently there’s no reason to do that. But our goal is to bring communities you’re in to VR, and make them richer through VR.
Why Robert Scoble, or UploadVR doesn’t have a VR social account ? Because you can’t have one — and we’re gonna fix it !

What does it mean to be transparent ?
It means to share knowledge, plans, failures, successes, ways to grow, and experiment results. So let’s start:
Most important info about us:
- We’re team of 2 devs and few mentors. If you want to join us- write comment.
- We’ve acquired angel round: $50,000. And we have one month left of runway.
- We’re working on this project since 10 months (7 spent on BasementVR, 1 on reasearch & 2 on Postity)
- We’ve met 35 investors including Colopl, Gumi, VRFund, LumoLabs, BoostVC, Maveron, Bragiel Bros, SpeedInvest, Outpost Capital, CRCM Ventures. (More info in the next articles).
- BasementVR was used by +4,000 users, most active player spent +100 hours in app ( Another article will cover use cases).
- Postity will include lot’s of learnings ( how to implement hooked model in VR by Nir Eyal, how to build perpetual growth engine for VR based on Sarah Tavel experiences from Pinterest, how to design core action which people love).
What’s next ?
We’re planning launch our next iteration next week — and our goal is to prove it will work.
How we’ll measure it ?
By RETENTION.
It’s the only important metric for us.
In the next article we’ll cover how we’re preparing product launch.
Write comment about what you want to read after that:
- In depth learnings from BasementVR ( with charts, and user’s videos)
- Financial metrics- how did we spent Angel money, how did we earn ?
- More information about Postity.
