The thing that stuck with me during the class discussion was the concept of the two houses that journalism industry is dealing with. The first house which is the current business model is on fire. The journalism industry has to tend to that house while building the second house; the new business model based on social journalism without a blueprint.

Identifying and engaging the communities about the role of news in their lives and how the journalism industry can help them meet their goals will fill out the blueprint for the second house. Social journalism is key to engaging with and staying connected to those communities. But the issue is that the business model for journalism will continue change and the jourmalism industry will have to keep adjusting as technology evolves. Social Journalism will have to adapt as well. In the end it all comes to down to finding new ways to bridge the gap between journalism and the communities they serve.
