Ready, Set, Duel. Tavrn now has a functioning multiplayer duel, where two users on different Oculus systems are able fight one another with magic. Daniel Demeter ’19 (Computer Science and Math), Michael Fodor ’19 (Computer Science), Carl Maggio ’18 (Computer Engineering), Sammy Pulos ’19 (Computer Science), and Natalie Van Maerssen ’20 (Computer Science and Philosophy) have designed their game to contain three areas: the Tavern, the Duel, and the Race. In the Duel, players choose from a range of spells to take down opponents, like fireballs to deliver damage or healing to regain health. With the medieval arena fully textured and the foundation already laid for dueling, the Tavrn team hopes to add in as many spells as time will allow before the project’s completion this spring.

Riding on a broom through the town and terrain is much smoother now after the team has fixed a couple of bugs in the controls. They plan to add both a single and multiplayer race in the near future, after further adjusting the broom-riding experience. Just putting on the headset and controlling your broom’s flight is thrilling, so the addition of a racing component will be an interesting element to follow.

Sensitive to motion sickness in VR? Ride Tavrn’s broomstick at your own risk!

With a couple months still to go before the Imagine That! VR competition, Tavrn is looking like a tough team to beat. Continue checking in with the Imaginarium’s Facebook page and website to track Tavrn’s progress and to learn about the other teams!
