And we have no mortgage (Chinese believe in paying cash. I am not Chinese but I believe the same thing as a Yo-Tai-Ren). We have no debt. Any cash the business earns is saved. I was trained by the best at Kyocera. No debt. Two years of cash reserves. No VC’s, no other investors, fund growth from cash for working capital. If you cannot afford it do not buy it. It has worked for 11 years. None of us want to ever go public. We like our business , 1000 guys strong operating at the absolute total minimum cost without sacrificing a hint of quality. You would be surprised how you can rework older equipment to the same job. Lean TPS helps greatly. And we share with employees plenty. Last year they got 2 months bonus at Y/E (but we delivered it on XMAS). We pay for health care for them and they only pay 50 dollars for individuals per month, 100 per family, and 0 deductible and 0 co-pay — we pay it. They never have to worry. We have paid FMLA for any reason and it can last up to six months. Pregnancy the same. you can have six months paid. You can work from home when able. Come in when able. It is not a disease. Father’s can get the same thing. We have no ping pong tables or video game rooms. We trust our employees and if they need a break they take it. If they need to go the doctor they just write a note to their supervisor. No big deal. If they need mental health days, we get it. And that way we get the best and keep them.
We only hire American citizens that have a passport. We do not hire PR or sponsor any form of visa. That is important. Tech guys are good and trained and we will not stupidly go for cheaper. We keep cash for bad times so that we can keep employees and we train for new skills or coding languages to hold employees WE Take a cut in management or nothing during bad times.
That is the Kyocera way we learned.
