UK Social Media Statistics 2015

According to a study conducted by Google, 77% of mobile device owners in the UK use their devices to access social networking sites. Having learned that, we became curious to learn more about the most popular social media sites in the UK. Let’s find out.

Data from Infographic Produced by GlobalWebIndex.com

The data presented in the infographic comes from Q3 and Q4 of 2014. Globalwebindex released the infographic earlier this year.

Based on the data, Facebook is the most popular social media site in the UK, with 79% membership and 50% active users. Youtube comes next with 50% membership and 24% active users (just over half that of Facebook). On the other hand, Tumblr is at the end of the list with 12% membership and 6% active users.

% of Users Who Log-in Multiple Times a Day

This data represents the percentage of people who log into a particular social media site at least twice a day.

Facebook came out on top with 53%. This comes as no surprise since some people use Facebook as a form of communication (Facebook messenger) or use it as a primary source of information (news feed).

Time Spent on Social Networks (Daily)

This represents the average time spent by users in their social media accounts to check the news feed, upload photos or videos, watch videos, write blogs, share copy, etc.

Surprisingly, Tumblr came out on top for the time spent on social media, leaving Google+ trailing at 2.6 hours.

Conclusion

The increase in mobile device use has paved the way for the rise of social media. Facebook, Instagram and Twitter are used primarily on mobile devices. The data presented on the infographic can serve as reference for Internet and social media marketers.
