San Francisco Transit Riders has been around for seven years, achieving important wins to get transit in motion in San Francisco:
- We were instrumental in getting all-door boarding, which dramatically speeds up the boarding process;
- Center-running lanes, crucial for the speed and efficiency of Van Ness BRT, would not have happened without our advocacy.
- In the first transit bond in 35 years, we got voters to support $500 million in transit funding
- In the 22-day Muni Challenge, we pushed political leaders to experience what riders do every day.
For most of this time and this work, we were all volunteers. But we knew we needed the organizational strength of full time staff in order to be consistently at the table and proactive in our work. Building on our successes in fundraising and advocacy, we were able to hire our first Executive Director this year — and it has been a game-changer in what we can concretely plan for and achieve.
SFMTA knows we’re here, we’re not going away, and we will keep them accountable. We are here to ensure important transit projects are no longer watered down. We feel the demand for our work in every conversation we have with San Franciscans about their public transit.
Through our Transit Week, we have these conversations with thousands of riders, engaging them in building a positive transit rider community.
We are here to transform the future of transit in San Francisco (and beyond!). We want San Francisco to truly become a transit-first city. We want transit to be affordable, efficient, and always growing.
So hop on board with us — 2018 will be our year of Riders in Motion. Together we can keep the momentum going — to continue to build our reach, to engage the rider’s voice, and to make transit responsive to our needs.
Hope to see you November 28 — buy your tickets here! Tell all your friends and invite them! If you can’t make it, you can always donate here! We need to raise $20,000 before the end of the year — help us get our fundraising done early so we can be ready for 2018!
