SHOUTcast TechTip #3.14

Did you know that your SHOUTcast server doesn’t have to use an IP address for its streams? Wouldn’t it be cool to have your raw stream URL appear as text instead of just a set of numbers? All you have to do is enter a domain name in the servers configuration.

For example, simply change the “publicip” value in the config file to your DNS or web domain name and that’s it! for example you would enter:

publicip=yourdomain.com

Once you enter this setting, click the “Reload Server Configuration” and you’ll be able to use www.yourwebaddress.com:portnumber as your stream url.

Note: This feature requires the latest version of SHOUTcast, available at www.shoutcast.com/broadcastnow
