SIPTU calls for trade unionists to participate in #DublinPride – #Pride2017
SIPTU is calling on trade unionists to participate in the annual Dublin Pride march tomorrow (Saturday, 24th June) to show their support for the creation of a better and more equal society in Ireland.
The Pride march begins with a rally in St. Stephens Green, Dublin 2, from 12.00 p.m. to 2.00 p.m. and concludes in Smithfield Square, Dublin 7. The trade union contingent on the march will include an open top bus and a samba band.
SIPTU National Campaigns and Equality Organiser, Karan O Loughlin, said: “Equality for the LGBTQ community is of crucial importance to the trade union movement. The trade union moment is committed to working to ensure that our members from the LGBTQ community are free from discrimination in the workplace and society.
“In recent years, Irish society has made major advances in terms of equality. Central to these was the referendum vote in favour of Marriage Equality. The campaign to secure support for this important advance was supported from the beginning by the trade union movement.”
She added: “The key message that trade unionists will be seeking to deliver at this year’s Pride march is that discrimination in the workplace will not be tolerated by our movement. The other key reason that trade unionists will be attending this year’s Pride is to offer solidarity to our brothers and sisters in Northern Ireland who are currently campaigning for Marriage Equality.”
