We all know how fast time moves in the metaverse, but with four Swoops seasons taking place within a single calendar year, if you blink, you’re bound to miss something!

The goal of this article is to help fill in the gaps with a quick rundown of major events from the last week (August 7–11, 2023). We are bound to miss things, so please feel free to drop a comment and let us know what should have been included!

Let’s dive in.

RUST

The cutoff to play a Swoopster in 50 games during Season 1 in order to avoid “rust” was Monday, August 7. If the 50 game minimum was not met, expect that player to experience a sub-optimal progression on player evolution day. You can read more about the new concept in our thread below.

NEW LIMITED EDITION SWOOPSTERS

The Season 2 Swoops Mint will include two new Rookie special edition Swoopsters — 5-stars prospects Tronny Quick (Guard) and The Tinforcer (Center), each of whom comes with their own personalized logo. Both will be part of the supply minted on Day 1, August 16 — those minting on August 17 will not have a chance at landing either of these!

SWOOPY AWARDS

The Season 2 Swoopy Awards took place Tuesday, August 8, in a Twitch stream. Nominees listed below and winners are in bold.

Most Valuable Swoopster: Degen King, Darius Gearland, Larry Password

Defensive Swoopster of the Year: Timmy Dao, The Epicenter, Andre Iguabotta

Most Improved Swoopster: Stucci Brothers, LeBot James, JSON Tatum

Rookie of the Year: Swoop Renderson, Vector Wembotyama, Henry VII

Owner of the Year: SeaGodz, Blockchain Bad Boyz, Swoop Dogs

General Manager of the Year: Metacourt Miners, Northside 416ers, Swish Beatz

SWOOPER BOWL

We buried the lead here, but the Season 1 Swooper Bowl (with a $20,000 prize pool) kicked off Wednesday, August 9, with the first round. The Round of 32 and The Swoops 16 took place August 10, and the Elite 8, Final 4, and Championship took place August 11. Congratulations to all 64 teams that qualified, but particularly to Unchained Web, who bounced back from a loss in last season’s final to take home the $6,000 prize by edging out Swish Beatz in Game 7 by 1 point.

You can rewatch the streams on Twitch. The new viewing structure (skipping ahead to 4th quarter) allowed for faster streams and seemed well-received by the audience.

Alongside the actual Swooper Bowl, a couple of peripheral events that took place was the bracket challenge (hosted by Swoops) and a Daily Fantasy Sports contest (hosted by Swoops Illustrated). Swoop Dogs built a new scoreboard tool that allowed for live updates of the contest on his website.

*If you haven’t checked out the SwoopHeads website, you’re missing out on some of the best player evaluation tools available — compare players, see how specific lineups perform together, and even take a look at league-wide attribute ratings!

LOOKING AHEAD TO NEXT WEEK

While the past week was dominated by the build up to the Swooper Bowl and we now enter the offseason, the following week involves two of the most exciting off the court events in Swoops: Player Evolution & Mint Day.

PLAYER EVOLUTION DAY (AUGUST 15)

Swoopsters are dynamic — meaning that what they are this season is not how they will always be. Since the last mint included 1,500 Swoopsters aged Season 1 through 3, this is a highly-anticipated day for many new owners that primarily fielded rosters of young players.

On Evolution Day, Swoopsters “age” one season, meaning the “Season” on their player card will increase by one, and they will have an additional attribute rating revealed. Users only see the amount of growth on revealed attributes, so keep in mind that there is likely lots of unseen changes going on with players (ratings going up or down)! The top 3 attributes on a player card always represent the highest 3 ratings for a player, so these can change, and they help you “solve” some of the puzzle of learning a Swoopster’s abilities. SEASON 2 MINT (AUGUST 16 & 17)

Dates: August 16 (Owners & Presale Signups) & August 17 (Public)

Supply: 750 Swoopsters (any unsold supply will be burned)

Swoopster Breakdown: Rookies only (1 attribute rating revealed)

Cost: 0.05 ETH

Bonuses: 2 Limited Edition Swoopsters will be part of the supply minted on Day 1 — not available on Day 2

Limits: 3 per wallet, per day

Notes: Players aren’t revealed on mint day, but typically 24 hours after the mint closes. Believe me, you’ll want to available at the time of reveal!

For more information on the mint, check out our last blog post.
