My Favorite Time Of The Website Design Process
I started as a web designer, because I love this craft. And honestly, because there is good money to be made with it. It is however a very competitive industry, especially with all the new WYSIWYG do it yourself website builders.
I find that every few months I am able to step up my game with what I consider my next greatest design that will leave my previous ones in the dust. Although in reality that is not always true, but in my mind it makes every new design a bigger accomplishment.
So many clients I have ask me what my favorite part of the design process is. Let me start with what used to be my least favorite.
Plain and simple, my least favorite was handing in the initial mock-up and having to wait for the clients reaction. As a newbie I found this to be tense and stressful, and really just not a lot of fun at all. Probably because of a lack of confidence in my skill set.
When I first started out my favorite part was obviously when I got paid.
But it is funny how things have turned. While of course the payment part is the main goal, it is no longer what brings me the most satisfaction.
While of course the payment part is the main goal, it is no longer what brings me the most satisfaction.
Now my favorite part is actually what used to keep me up at night, and that is when I submit my initial mock-up to the client and am awaiting their response. I guess being way more confident and successful has changed my attitude.
Now I can’t wait for the clients response to my mock-up. More so I can’t wait for their reaction! My last two sites that I submitted received awesome reactions. I had one client on the phone while they were going over the design, and he was basically like, “ oh — wow, i’m speechless — I never expected this.” (in a good way.) The design was immediately accepted and work continued.
My most recent which was an hour ago, and what prompted me to write this, was another similar reaction. The email in a nutshell read, “I loved your design! It was perfect for what I want to achieve for my business!”
Now don’t get me wrong, I get my share of bad reactions, but that moment before I open that email with the clients answer is for me just so exciting. And when it’s a favorable reaction, nothing beats it!
