Salutations to the Chinese who made Shivaji & Rana Pratap respectable

‘Misled patriots, themselves confused and confusing others too, blind with communal frenzy, bloodthirsty, enemies of mankind, robbers’, this was the reception accorded to Chatrapati Shivaji, Rana Pratap & others. We bow to the Chinese, a particle of whose grace made these scoundrels become respectable in a single moment. (From कण्टकाञ्जलिः, published 1965).
Context: This is a satirical verse directed towards the then Indian government. The government attitude towards the lives of Chatrapati Shivaji and Maharana Pratap was hardly laudatory earlier. But after 1962 Chinese invasion, the government wanted to inspire patriotic feelings amongst the people. Hence the u-turn. Akashvani broadcast many inspirational programs based on Shivaji, Rana Pratap & others. Now these became models for inspiration for overthrowing the foreign yoke.
What a scathing criticism by way of praising the Chinese!
