Best regards,

Phadke

Today is 20th June, 2016. It is Monday over in India. My Inspirational week started by reading following lines

Ms. Valery Satterwhite shared above lines as LinkedIn post. I liked the post and that is how I am resharing it again.

Thinking process that she shared also apply to each individual (myself included too) and that is fine tuning of personal or professional skills. We all need to fine tune our skills daily. Else our skills will become useless.

In same way brand (personal or professional) also need change.

Thinking process mentioned in above lines are also sync with bitter truth of every mankind and that is change is unavoidable.

Physically we all change daily. Question is does our thinking change daily? If it is changing? Good.

If not then start right now before thinking is damaged and it is beyond repairs.

My second inspirational reading was film talk. Click below to read about.

Look at the following image first

Above message (2 short names for Do-It-For-Me and Do-It-Yourself and next image full form of DIY and DI4ME) I picked up from following post. Click link below to read the post

When I finished reading above post! I felt I must write about DIY and about DI4ME based on my own observation and experience.
While writing I am using connecting dots thinking, Thinking Slow (thanks to Thinking Fast & Slow Book) and The Checklist Manifesto book recommendations.

Let me define first both the short forms.

DIY means Do It Yourself.

DI4ME means Do It For Me.

DIY is an attitude.

DIY is living culture.

DIY is thinking.

DIY is life style.

Some got it and not all.

Some, who got it, are (in general) Independent, Self Disciplined, Self Passionate, Self Inspired, Aggressive, Courageous, Confident, Self Esteem, Self Respected, Enthusiastic, Optimistic, etc. Pride and ego can be also observed in in DIY personality. DIY people are self-learned and self-trained. DIY people normally ask countless questions before they start doing any job. DIY people (normally) refer books so that they are up to date about the knowledge.

On other hand! DI4ME are completely opposite. DI4ME is also attitude. DI4ME is living culture. DI4ME is thinking style. DI4ME is life style. Many got it. Those (many) are dependent on others, got no discipline (mostly), got no passion (mostly), got too much of greed, see no inspiration around, no aggression, no confidence, no self-esteem, no self-respect, no enthusiasm, good amount of laziness, etc.

I was not aware about DI4ME as a concept till I read above web link article. In turn I was unable to understand (think and imagine) at my end why people around me (in home, in office, in society and in nation) follow DI4ME and why not they follow DIY?

After reading today’s article? I found the requisite knowledge, basic information and education for myself about DI4ME. Learn, unlearn and relearn happened for me. I’m unbiased (now) for all those Indians (non-Indians too) who are following DI4ME culture. I’m unbiased for all those Indians (myself included first and non-Indians too) who follow DIY culture.

In Marathi language (my native language in which I studied entire education in India like pre nursery, nursery, primary, secondary and higher secondary education) DIY is called

Person who follows DIY culture is called as स्वावलंबी.

In English we can call it as Self Independent person.

DI4ME is called as परावलंबी.

In Marathi language there is also another powerful word named as बांडगूळ.

In English it is called as parasite.

There is also famous Marathi quote on DI4ME category of people and it goes like this ~ जो दुसऱ्या वारी विसंबला त्याचा कार्यभाग बुडाला.

English translation ~ Person who depend on others for his/her work and business? He/she loses his/her work & business. This is word to word and line to line translation.

I’m DIY person.

Not by birth.

By birth I was untrained and uneducated.

DIY DNA was injected in my body and thinking by many people.

First, माझी आई means My Mother who pushed me hard and taught me to become DIY day by day. Week by week. Month after month. Year after year. Till I got married.

Background of my mother

My Mother was orphan child. She lost her parents after her birth. I think she was 3 to 4 years old at that time. She had only one hand and i.e. left hand. She was polio victim. Polio attacked on her right hand and her right hand became useless forever.

From her childhood and because of circumstances, she moved from one home to another home. After every 3 to 4 years her home was changed. In each home no one (care taker of her and owner of that home) helped her. In each home, no one showed her any sympathy. In turn, she did every task in hand (in home and in orphan school) on her own. She was angry (I assume & think) on her fate, on her luck and god. I am sure in that period she must have asked this question to Invisible Spirit. Why me?

This factor (doing everything on her on own) made herself independent. DIY factor generated self-esteem and self-respect in her mind. She became disciplined person. She became aggressive and confident. She developed an attitude not to accept NO from anyone around and in turn she learned countless skills on her own. She read a lot. All along she hated all those people who were following DI4ME attitude.

When she got married with my father? She thought my father did favor on her. In turn, she lived her entire life (till her death) under obligation. I call it complete illusion but she never agreed with me.

On some days she expressed about it to me as son. I never agreed with her view point. I also tried my level best to convince her about it. But I was failed.

May be she was not exposed to global history books the way I was.

She was not aware about Mobile, Computer and Internet.

She didn’t read global history books the way I read.

So I had my own view point and she had hers. We both were right in our own perspective and/or illusion.

However, when I was born? She thought, she got someone (her own) with whom she could share everything and anything. She preached and taught everything that she knew about life.

She transformed her (entire) knowledge to me which she had picked up (learned and by taking experience) living her daily life.

Having said above, this DIY attitude also put too much of stress on her health and one day she died. All along she was DIY person. One day her nerve cord was disturbed as she tried to pick a bucket (full of water) by her one hand and then she collapsed. From that moment onward, half body of hers became senseless and she was unable to walk, she was unable to take bath, she was unable to go to toilet and so on. My uncle and myself helped her till her last breath. At one side of mind, she was happy that someone was helping her. On other side of mind, she was angry since she became dependent on others. We both (my uncle and myself) experienced her anger many times. But in that period too, she pushed her hard and she was doing too many things by sitting on bed or by sleeping on bed. For me, it was miracle that I saw daily. However in her last 14 days (when she was hospitalized)! She completely became dependent and she was frustrated. I think, she also realized that she is going to die. I was with her 24 hours serving her. But I couldn’t help her to live more since I was dependent on medicine professionals. Finally on 14th day she died. However, she lived very prestigious and self disciplined life all along. She was proud about it. I was proud about her more than that and that is how I also injected DIY attitude in my body forever. More over, on daily basis I pray Nature God and Invisible Spirit not to make dependent and parasite on any one. Being dependent on others and being parasite on others? I hate it from bottom of my heart & soul.

When I was young (I am talking about my secondary education era and i.e. from 5th standard to 10th standard)? I was not able to understand, imagine, think, validate and analyze:-

Why I was asked to clean & wipe the floor?

Why I was taught how to cook?

Why I was asked to buy vegetables, wash vegetables and cut vegetables?

Why I was asked to make grocery list, buy grocery items and then store each one of them in designated compartments?

Why I was taught how to stitch shirt and pant?

Why I was taught how to buy milk, how to boil milk and how to make tea?

Why I was taught how to make coffee?

Why I was forced to learn English and Marathi typing and shorthand?

Why I was taught how to wash cloths by hand?

Why I was taught how to iron cloths?

Why I was taught how to clean bathroom and toilet by hand?

Why I was taught how to remove stones from various grains like wheat, sorghum, etc.?

Why I was taught how to take out wheat flour and sorghum flour manually in home?

Why I was taught how to make flat bread out of wheat flour and sorghum flour?

and so on.

Today I feel that it is because of my mother! I became DIY person. It was my mother who was my first teacher, first mentor and first guru for DIY penetration in to my body and in my thinking.

As time passed and when I got married and when my better half produced first baby girl and then baby boy? People around were amazed and surprised.

I handled both the deliveries of my 2 kids without any stress, without any pressure, without any tension and without any burden. It was like OK. I will do it. Nothing to worry about it. Job will be done.

I also remember another enchanting episode of my life. I started earning (thanks for being born in weak financially joint family structure) when I was 9 years old.

I used to sale sainted soaps, hair oil, etc. in winter vacations so that I could buy crackers for me for Deepawali festival alias Festival of Lights on my own than asking my parents.

While selling (visiting door to door)! I never felt anything wrong about it. So DIY seed got injected in my body at appropriate time and age. I am so lucky & blessed.

Post to that.

When I became adult (at 15 years old. I am sure many Indian parents may not agree with me since most of them are learned but yet to be unlearned and relearned about this concept of becoming adult. Most of them {Indian parents} are biased about it and yet to become unbiased about this concept when boy or girl becomes adult), I started working in Hotel Darshan as waiter.

My job was simple. Serve the water. Talk to customer. Take the order. Write the order on paper. Handover the paper to cash counter. When the dishes are ready to serve? Pick them and serve to customers. When customers ask to clean the table? Pick up those dishes and hand over it to washing department.

I could do that job without any stress, tension and pressure because my goal was not work. My goal was to learn. To learn, I wanted money. By doing the job in Hotel Darshan, I was able to pay college fees. I became (financial) helping hand for our family. I was handing over 50% of my monthly income to my mother month after month. While working in Hotel Darshan, I never felt anything wrong about the job and about the task in hand. It was an honorable and respectful job for me. At least I was not looting anyone, I was not paying bribe, I was not doing corruption to earn money and I was not killing. So from that angle and perspective! Working in Hotel Darshan was descent and sober job.

Over there I was respected by owner for the excellent services that I was offering to each customer. I was also respected by Indian customers since I was excellent sales person. I was smart. I was extremely good in oral communication and body communication. I was also looking damn good at that time.

Over there I never gave single opportunity (I worked in Hotel Darshan for 2 years) to any of my customers to raise their voice for poor service. I was always available to each of my customer when they thought about me.

Over there I served famous customers like P L Deshpande (writer), V V Shirwadkar (writer), Vasant Kanetkar (writer), Vijay (actor from film Julie), Laxmi (actress from film Julie), Nasiruddin Shah (actor), Om Puri (actor), Romesh Bhandari (actor), Kamlakar Sarang (actor), Lalan Sarang (Actress), Nilu Phule (Actor), Dr. Jabbar Patel (actor, film producer & director), Dr. Mohan Agashe (medicine doctor and actor), Mohan Gokhale (actor), Satish Alekar (actor & writer), Shridhar Rajguru (drama producer), B V Rao (Chairman of Venkateshwara Group) and his 2 kids namely Venkatesh and Anuradha (She is Chairman now) and above all Rahulkumar Bajaj and his entire family. Famous industrialists who produce 2 and 3 wheeler.

At the end of the day I was earning and I became self-independent on my own than becoming dependent on my parents. So DIY seed got injected in college period too.

While reading above mentioned article? I also categorically remember Prof. Shivajirao Bhosale (click link to read more about him https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shivajirao_Bhosale ) and his Marathi book Jagar (Click to read more http://www.amazon.in/Jagar-Vichar-Mandav-Khand-Marathi/dp/8190874306) in which Professor categorically written why it is important for every Indian boy and girl to become DIY person.

First thought arrived in mind after reading DI4ME article

I also think whichever outsiders ruled India and Indians and looted for countless years (including Britishers) because of DI4ME DNA residing in (many and not all) Indians. I also think DI4ME may be established in (many and not all) Indian’s blood for a very long time. Let me repeat. May be.

DI4ME (injected in Indian’s blood) attitude must have motivated many Indians (at that time) to trust others (including Britishers, Moghul rulers, Portuguese rulers, etc.) and these Indians asked them to do every damn on the earth for them.

Slowly, systematically & intelligently outsiders started ruling their kingdom and that’s how outsiders ruled Indian kings and countless Indians for many years.

While ruling Indian Kings and Indians? Outsiders looted every nook and corner of India and every Indian royally & systematically.

They took away huge (physical) wealth of gold, silver & diamond.

Worst thing that happened with India and with Indians was they took away huge knowledge wealth.

While ruling and while taking exit, they (outsiders) offered India and Indians various products, services, etc. And above all how to bribe to get the job done?

Above are my instant & innocent thoughts.

As I am able to see (and take experience too) (many) Indians around (in home, in office, in society and in nation) who are following DI4ME culture than DIY culture.

At my end I follow DIY culture and I feel happy about it. It gives me tremendous pleasure and satisfaction. It also gives me peace of mind.

Second thought arrived in mind after reading DI4ME article

How come and/or why (many and not all) Indians got DI4ME attitude? My own interpretation & perception is this.

(Many and not all) Indians (since birth till death) were not well trained, empowered, educated & informed (in their home from their child hood) that there is no free lunch for everyone. Not even birth that happened for all us and myself included first and too. Someone paid (or paying) huge price for our birth.

In case of birth of any boy or a girl. Boy’s or girl’s mother paid huge price by holding that baby for 7/8/9 months in her uterus.

In this pregnancy period, she must have suffered a lot.

She must have gone through various pains. Mental and physical.

She must have taken medicines to keep her baby healthy.

She must have eaten food (healthy or unhealthy. Organic or in organic) to keep her baby healthy.

Someone (may be father or guardian or step father or grandfather or grandmother or friend) must have paid the price for medicine and food.

Someone must have prepared the food.

When baby was ready to come out! Someone must have admitted that pregnant female in (some) hospital.

Someone must have paid the fees of that hospital and to doctor.

After the birth of that baby (boy or girl)! Someone must have taken care of that newly born baby and her mother.

Someone must have put-in the efforts (for all above) and these efforts are priced and not free at all.

May be when they boy or girl grown up in due course of time? He/she should have been informed about it as mentioned above.

As regards to my birth! When I became adult, I asked countless questions to everyone around like my grandmother, grand father, mother, father, uncle, etc.

I also asked questions to distant relatives who were there when I was born.

Slowly and step by step I realized this bitter truth that my birth didn’t happened free of cost. In turn, there is no free lunch concept was well established in my thinking forever.

Third thought arrived in mind after reading DI4ME article

While reading about Indian freedom war and about Indian freedom fighters! I also realized that the freedom that I got being Indian didn’t come free of cost to me and to every Indian.

And that is how I became alert & cautious about freedom and use of freedom.

As of now and as of today, I never tried to assassinate freedom that I got in India being Indian.

Forth thought arrived in mind after reading DI4ME article

When I was in 7th standard! Our school forced (through common circular for all parents) our parents not to give money to buy crackers.

Instead, they asked our parents (first) and then to us (next) to sale festival soaps, festival hair oil, etc. and forced us to earn money on our own so that we could buy crackers on our own than taking money from our parents.

This act taught me that spending is far easy. But earning is not that easy. In that period I learned (unlearned & relearned again) the value of money. DIY seed was well planted by our school.

Fifth thought arrived in mind after reading DI4ME article

When I was in college and I was working in Hotel Darshan to earn & to pay college fees! I learned (unlearned & relearned) the value of excellent customer services in this place. I also learned value of money and value of efforts. DIY seed was well planted within my body and thinking. Thanks to economic background in which I was born. Thanks to my father who refused to pay me fees for college education but allowed me to sleep and to take bath.

Today while I was reading about Mr. Mukul Arora’s article (link is available above) about DIY and DI4ME? I instantly felt that this is the best time to share my own experience about DIY and about DI4ME. I hope reader like it.

Best regards,

Phadke

An Eye In The Sky

Watching this film and trying to understand each character and their mindset is a wonderful experience. That’s my interpretation, my perception and my point of view. POV.

At my end and in India, I was lucky and blessed.

In past I saw number of biographical films that were made on real people.

Each film unveiled the history that was unknown to me.

Learned (unlearn & relearn too) history was not taught in our Indian school.

Want to know more about biographical? Click the web link below and go through the list of films already made in past and films that are in pipeline.

I am following above process in my own life. It is initiated by me on my own when I read Theory of Karma book (3 times), The Checklist Manifesto Book (2 times), 7 Habits of Successful People (5 times) and Thinking Fast & Slow (2 times). This process unveiled approach plan for me to solve problems or hurdles or challenges faced by me on day to day basis.

Till yesterday, it helped.

I loved this expression since at my end in India I have been using Indian food making process as a part of my sales story to convince Indian manufacturing customers about knowledge based engineering software automation.

I always used Biryani (click link to read more about it https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biryani) as a part of my initial story. I used this strategy as I found many engineering companies (founders or directors) had great emotional connect for home made food. Somehow they couldn't’ get it when they were young and when they started their business. Every time I used the story of Biryani and decision makers agreed on my story and we won the project. From Year 2005 till 2011, I won more than 22 projects. Out of which first 2 projects failed in terms of completing in time. 20 projects completed before time. I remembered all these (connecting points) while reading following article. Above image message is also picked from the article only. Click to read the article

Above inspiring message inspired me to shared the article. Link is below. I categorically remember this message today, since same message was also given to me by my business Guru alias Mentor alias Teacher alias Boss (so called and he never behaved like a boss) Dr. M. N. Cooper. He was CMD of www.modular-infotech.com

I received above message back in FY 2000. At that time I was so much frustrated by religious and castism chaos in home, in colony, in society and across India. Out of frustration, one day I asked Dr. Cooper innocently that I wanted to get converted in to Parsi.

On that he smiled and said above lines. He also said that you don’t need to get converted in to Parsi and/or for that matter any religion as such. As long as you trust the values and you devote your life for others? You are Parsi. So why to worry and why to bother? You are already Parsi.

While reading following article! I recollected my talk with Dr. Cooper. Click the link below to read the post.

Also click following to know more about Mr. Rohinton Nariman who quoted message lines that you can see in image.
