We have some good news to share! As of today, all Sphero robots are now compatible with the Sphero Edu app on Chromebooks running the latest versions of Chrome OS.

In late 2019, a number of Sphero robots stopped working with the Sphero Edu app on Chromebooks. This was linked to changes made in the Chrome OS 78 release. …

What’s being released?

Sphero Edu 5.3.1 for Chrome OS.

What’s fixed?

  • Sphero BOLT now connects to Chromebooks with Chrome OS version 78.
  • Sensor data graph improvements
  • “On Charging” event blocks now correctly work

What isn’t fixed?

5.3.1 does not have Chrome OS 78 connection fixes for Sphero Mini, R2-D2, R2-Q5, or BB-9E.

What’s new:

Google has started releasing Chrome OS version 78 to eligible Chromebooks. While this version does have a number of great new features, we have also found that there is an incompatibility with the Sphero Edu app. With Chrome OS 78, some Sphero robots will no longer connect successfully. We recommend withholding from this OS update if compatibility with BOLT and Mini is vital.
