#LikeAGirl
I came across this video called ‘#LikeAGirl’ by Always. Trust me, it got me well!
I have heard this pathetic line far too many times in my life. It is everywhere I go. Since when did the phrase ‘like a girl’ become such a bad thing? Why is it an insult to hear that from someone?
I have heard this line said to me several times during cricket training, “Make sure that you girls don’t go out on the field and throw #LikeAGirl”. It is not just the men who say it, because the person who told me that, was a woman herself. I admit that I myself have said it to my brother. However, thinking of it now I realise how saying that is a way of insulting my gender, and who I am. And I know that I am not the only one who used to do this. We as women need to stop putting our own kind down and support each other. We need to change the negative mindset around this phrase and back each other up. Be proud to be a woman, never ashamed!
“If somebody else says that running like a girl, shooting like a girl or kicking like a girl is something you shouldn't be doing, then that’s their problem. Because if you’re still scoring, still getting to the ball on time and still being first, you’re doing it right. It doesn't matter what they say. Yes, I kick like girl, I swim like a girl, I walk like a girl and I wake up in the morning like a girl, because I am a girl. That is not something that I should be ashamed of. So I’m going to do it anyway!”
Do feel free to check out the video below for yourself. You’ll be reminded of wisdom we once had and left behind.
